About Sonny and Cher

A unique duo who got their start on the pop/folk music scene in the 1960s, Sonny and Cher became America's favorite couple by the 1970s with their weekly variety show that gave the husband and wife team an opportunity to do comedy and skits in addition to perform music. Best known for their hit "I Got You Babe" and "The Beat Goes On," the happy-go-lucky duo featured the diminuitive Sonny Bono with his handlebar mustache and goatee beard and the tall, elegant Cher with her long curtain of black hair. Viewers tuned in each week not just for the comedy hijinx of Sonny and Cher, but to see what outrageous outfits they would wear, too!

A great couple's costume, everyone knows who Sony and Cher are! Put on a brown fur vest over a loud, retro-printed shirt and some bellbottom pants. Men can wear a large fake mustache with a black pageboy wig that hits at chin-length. Tie a strip of beaded rawhide around your forehead to complete your Sonny Bono makeover!

Ladies can try on a long black wig to get Cher's signature '70s tresses. While you can go for a ladies bellbottom costume, you can have just as much fun with a sequinned dress like many of the Bob Mackie creations Cher wore on the television show.
