About Satan

In the Biblical tradition, the name the fallen angel Lucifer is most widely recognized by, Satan, translates to the word "adversary," or the one who opposes. However, it was John Milton in "Paradise Lost" that fleshed out Satan as a literary character and something of an anti-hero of the tale with the ethos of "Better to reign in Hell than to serve in Heaven."

In movies, television, and other bits of popular culture, Satan has been portayed as everything from a fearsome, unabashedly evil occult figure to a cartoonish, sometimes humorous devil with red horns and a pointed tail.
