About Little Red Riding Hood

Fairy Tales have always been popular for little kids. Each fairy tale started out with a specific reason and they have been adapted several times. Little Red Riding Hood is no exception. There have been hundreds of adaptations to the tale. The most common adaptation for Little Red Riding Hood is the Brothers Grimm. The tale is about a little girl who wears a red cloak while walking through the woods to deliver food to her sick grandmother. A wolf that follows her is afraid to eat the little girl in public so he devises a plan. He suggests the girl pick some flowers for her grandmother before delivering the baked goods. This gives him time to get to the grandmothers house where he swallows her whole and dresses up like the grandmother. The girl arrives and is swallowed whole as well, but then a hunter comes along to save them both. In other adaptations such as Disney the child speaks to the wolf in the house saying “what big eyes you have, or what a big nose you have.” She is saved from being killed by the hunter in the end. Disney has even done a new animated version that was more of a spoof on the entire fairy tale.

Dressing up as Little Red Riding Hood

Little Red Riding Hood is known for her red cape or cloak. In order to be Little Red Riding Hood you must have at least this cape and the gingham basket she carried food in. There are a few styles to the other clothing, but they are typically from the Middle Ages with the tight corset style and flaring skirt. There are sexy costumes with shorter skirts and wire frames underneath to give it the fullness you see. There are also Goth Little Red Riding Hood costumes to choose from. When dressing up as Little Red Riding Hood you can choose a dress you already have and add the cape and basket or you can go all out if your budget allows. Little Red Riding Hood is not complete without the Big Bad Wolf. In fact your whole family could go as the Grandmother, Wolf, Hunter, and Little Red Riding Hood to complete the fairy Tale. The hunter will have an axe. The wolf can either be as you first see him or as he dress up as her grandmother. There are also accessories like the different types of baskets and shoes the girl wore in the tale. The cape should have a pointed design to the hood.
