About Gomez and Morticia Addams

The First Family of Fright, the Addams Family got their start as a newspaper cartoon created, written and drawn by Charles Addams. With a slightly warped sense of humor, Addams' cartoons became so popular that in 1964, they were given their own television show. At the head of the family was the quirkily macabre tycoon, Gomez Addams with his bug-eyes, pinstripe suits, and continental pencil mustache. Gomez's hobbies include smoking cigars, playing with model trains, and blowing things up with Uncle Fester. Oh, and engaging in fencing and some serious arm-kissing with his "Cara Mia!" Morticia. As the morbid matriarch, the lovely Morticia was tall and gaunt with long black hair. A devoted mother to Wednesday and Pugsley, Morticia tended to the family's collection of strange pets and man-eating plants. Additionally, she was the voice of reason to Gomez' wild schemes, coaxing him with some carefully worded French.... Drives 'em wild!

If it was good enough for Ken and Barbie to dress up as the Addams, then perhaps you and your other half would enjoy dolling up darkly as Gomez and Morticia Addams. A great couple's costume, several officially licensed styles are available in a range of sizes to fit men and women. Accessorize Morticia's long, slinky black dress with "octopus" styling at the hem with a long black wig and a light coating of white cream makeup and red lipstick for a creepy pallor!

In addition to the Gomez costume, gentlemen can pick up some fake cigars -- or a loaded one that explodes! No doubt that would really light ol' Gomez' fire for fun! -- as a great prop, slick their hair to the side and draw on a fine, pencil thin mustache. Add a slight coating of blue or black eyeshadow under your eyes to give them the creepy, hollowed out look that Mr. Addams sported.
