About Elephant

Elephants are very large pachyderms. There are two types of elephants in the wild. You have the Asian elephant and the African elephant. You might not realize it, but these elephants are actually different. The African elephant is larger and also has larger ears. With the African elephant both the female and males have tusks that are rather long. The Asian elephants tend to be smaller, with smaller ears and tusks. Asian elephants also have an arched back with two humps on the forehead and only one finger tip on their trunks. Dumbo would have been considered an African elephant in the Disney stories because he had the two finger trunk and larger ears. Elephants haven’t always been popular in stories; in fact Dumbo is about the only tale with an elephant besides Babar.

Dressing up as Elephant

Elephants are popular children’s costumes for Halloween. There are several elephant costumes to choose from whether you have a budget or not. For women or girls there is the elephant ballerina complete with a tutu, and pink elephant ears. This costume is a full body with the head and trunk. There is an economy elephant costume that is a little less quality in looking like a real live elephant, but it is still cute and complete. Dumbo and Babar are two other elephant costumes you might like to check out. These can either be made or found through partner sites. Some of the costumes allow for just the trunk and headband style elephant ears if you don’t like being enclosed in a full head mask. The baby elephant costume allows the child to have the elephant ears without the trunk so their face is exposed. There is also another type of baby costume with the trunk below the chin still leaving the face as the main head.
