Colonial Girl

The Colonial period in history is considered the 1700’s. During this time life was definitely simpler in terms of technology. The clothing the Colonials wore was handmade from cotton material mostly. They used simple patterns with a lot of aprons to cover the dresses while they worked. The Colonial period is such in history that many want to remember how it was. School during that time was not as important as helping out the family, therefore a lot of children wouldn’t go to school every day, but would learn from home. Travel was slower with the horse and buggy. There was also a lot of different laws being established during that time to help the country progress.

Dressing up as Colonial Girl

To dress as a Colonial Girl you are going to be outfitted in a long dress. Usually the dress is ankle length and rather shapeless. Some of dresses will have latch work on the fronts for the costumes. To complete the costumes the white apron will be fitted on the front. This enables the costume to have more shape. There are hats to complete the costumes. Usually they are made of white cotton to protect the hair from getting especially dirty. The costumes will come in a variety of sizes and colors. In fact any color that was around during colonial times such as brown, blue, reds, and others can be found. During colonial times women’s hair was often very long and placed in braids. You can add a wig to make the costume complete. For the shoes clogs or boots with short heels will add to the costume.
