About Cleopatra

Cleopatra is perhaps the most well known of the Egyptians. We have seen Hollywood tell the story of Cleopatra and Marc Antony several times. Cleopatra’s primary language was Greek despite being born in Egypt. Her meeting with Marc Antony was to ensure her loyalty to Casear. Antony was reputed to become infatuated with her and spent the winter of 41 BC with Cleopatra. He later married her though he was also married to Octavian’s sister. Cleopatra’s family was very important during 50 to 30 BC. She also left behind many children.

Dressing up as Cleopatra

Being an Egyptian Cleopatra is normally depicted in the traditional costumes of the time. If you wish to dress as Cleopatra, Marc Antony, or even another Egyptian, you would need a cloth material that would make a toga. You can use an old sheet if you need to save money or sew yourself the toga design. Usually there was a place for the arms and a rope or wire wrapped around the body to keep the dress in place. The legs in Cleopatra costumes are usually slit up to the top of the thigh. Cleopatra is often depicted with black hair so you may need a wig as well as crown to complete the costume. Cleopatra costumes often have fake gold jewelery on the arms, head, and around the neck. The Cleopatra costumes available are for children and adults. To complete the costume you would need a leather sandal with string to tie them on to be more traditional.
